What is Craniosacral Therapy?
Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy is a gentle - and profound non-invasive, hands-on
treatment for the whole body with a particular emphasis on regulation of the central nervous
system. This is the system that dictates all of the body’s functioning, constantly sending
and receiving information. We also orient to: The health and integrity of the fascia, the
production and flow of cerebralspinal fluid, the tensegrity of the dura which protects the
brain and spinal cord, as well as the communication between the systems of the body.
The term Biodynamic implies that this approach uses highly informed touch to invite and
support the client’s body to initiate the change, as needed in its’ own timing and priority. We
do not apply force or move clients or manipulate in any way.
What is a session like?
Performed on a massage table, the client is fully clothed and the touch is generally light and
still. The treatment is focused on supporting the health of the whole being, especially the
Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapists understand how an optimally functioning healthy
nervous system performs. We are trained to use acute perception skills to perceive subtle
physiological changes. We also are aware of the energetic map that underlies one‘s basic
health and symptomology. We believe that health is never lost no matter what the ailment.
We use our ability to identify the parts of the nervous system that are not functioning
optimally and our awareness of the “always available health” in the body to assist the
system in bringing itself back into balance. This supports greater ease and helps the body
Jennifer has been studying and teaching bodywork and movement for around 20 years. Beginning as a yoga teacher (Yoga Centre of Calgary), her curiosity led her to pursue a 4 year training in The Feldenkrais Method of Somatic Education (GCFP). The focus on subtle movements, with the emphasis on the skeleton and support - and the inherent intelligence of the nervous system - is a fulfilling source of ongoing study and discovery. Jennifer considers Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy as the jewel in the crown of body work. Deeply rooted in Inherent Health, BCST gives us all the invitation and reminder to relate to the immense resource we all have within our bodies, and to make the shift to focusing on what is working well. Learning to feel, know and trust our bodies supports the intention for healing. Jennifer recently completed a 2 year craniosacral therapy course with Body Intelligence, and is a registered CST. Jennifer’s work is supported and informed by her love of all movement, including Authentic Movement and Contact Improvisation. She enjoys time in nature with her husband and their dog Pixel.
