Acupuncture

Acupuncture

Natural forces within us are the true healers of the body

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) understands the human body with meridians, connections between organs, muscles, nerves, and other systems. TCM is based on knowledge gained and practices refined over thousands of years in China.

We are intrigued by how patients respond quickly and effectively to treatments of acupuncture, and also Chinese herbs. We have successfully treated patients with health problems throughout the whole body: cancer care and support, anxiety, shingles, stress, bells palsy, phantom pain syndrome, digestive problems (IBS), musculoskeletal pain, migraines, sinus infections and more.

Foundational Movement Therapy™

Getting to the root cause of pain

Foundational movement therapy™ is a way of identifying and correcting faulty movement patterns and dysfunction, which we now know are the main causes of pain and injury.

A high proportion of the injuries we treat have their origins in faulty movement patterns. We are big believers in injury prevention; you have to first learn how to move correctly.

We focus on mobility, stability and motor control.

Foundational Movement Therapy™
Reflexology

Reflexology

Restore your body to a healthy balance

Reflexology is a natural, holistic, healing art based on the principle that there are reflexes in the hands, feet and ears that correspond to every gland, organ and part of the body.

Through application of pressure on these reflexes, reflexology relieves tension, improves circulation, and helps your body to restore itself to a healthy balance. Reflexology provides some measure of benefit to all and can be part of a preventative health care regimen.

Reiki

Spiritually guided life force energy

Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by "laying on hands" and is based on the idea that an unseen "life force energy" flows through us and is what causes us to be alive.

A treatment feels like a wonderful glowing radiance that flows through and around you. Reiki treats the whole person including body, emotions, mind and spirit creating many beneficial effects that include relaxation and feelings of peace, security and wellbeing.

Nutrition

Nutrition

You are what you eat

Nutrition is the sum total of the processes involved in the taking in and the utilization of food substances by which growth, repair and maintenance of the body are accomplished. It involves ingestion, digestion, absorption and assimilation. Nutrients are stored by the body in various forms and drawn upon when the food intake is not sufficient.

Dr. Tanya Kelloway, DTCM, RAc

Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine
Registered Acupunturist
Meet Dr. Tanya Kelloway. Born in Calgary, Alberta and destined to follow her lifelong passion for health and wellness, Dr. T (as her patients know her) studied in the city of Mianyang in Sichuan province of China. She finished her Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine internship at the Mianyang Hospital of TCM and returned home to set up her practice here at the Mount Royal Health Centre. Dr. T, brings to her patients an incredible depth of knowledge and the ability to sort out the bodies subtle and sometimes not so subtle symptoms. Her passion for serving others comes across in her gentle, confident manner and her true caring for the well-being of others. Dr Tanya’s practice centres on the belief that our bodies don't want to have dis-ease. It is not a natural or enjoyable state for us, but ill-health can become a habit and like any other habit it needs to be corrected, TCM is a great correction tool. As Dr. Tanya always says, "What I really love about TCM is that it utilizes the body’s natural ability to heal itself, maintain balance and reach wellness”. Dr. T looks forward meeting and assisting you in your journey of health.

Dr. Maria Wristen, TCMD, RAc

Dr. Maria Wristen, TCMD, RAc

Traditional Chinese Medical Doctor, Registered Acupuncturist
Maria’s interest in natural medicine was sparked at a young age through the experience of seeing her mother suffer from chronic illness and the serious side effects of prescription drugs. She felt intuitively that there had to be a more natural approach to healing that would treat the whole person and not just their disease. It was while living in Japan that she learned about the therapeutic value of acupuncture. After developing environmental allergies and asthma and being presented with the option of using an inhaler, she decided to try acupuncture. She found the results so powerful not only with respect to allergies, but also in terms of overall wellness, that it altered her life’s path. Here was a gentle holistic therapy which stimulated the body’s innate healing mechanism. Maria felt so strongly about sharing the benefits of this ancient medicine that she decided to study acupuncture, and completed a four-year doctoral program in Calgary at the Canadian Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Her education in Canada was followed with an internship at MianYang Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine in MianYang, China. . With this in mind, she believes in the importance of tailoring each patient’s treatment plan to their specific needs and wellness goals. Although Maria treats a wide range of health concerns, some of her special interests include treating headaches, sleep and stress , digestive health, depression, anxiety and women’s health.

Barb Timmer

Barb Timmer

Reflexologist and Reiki
Alternative healing, complementary therapies and “healing from the inside out” became areas of interest and personal “choices” for Barb since 1989.

In 2002, she sought the help of a Reiki practitioner to help her with anxiety and stress (panic attacks). This turned her interests more toward whole health (body, mind & spirit) and toward ‘energy work’.

After that initial Reiki class, she went on to take many other classes including the Reiki Teacher Training. She became certified as a Registered Canadian Reflexology Therapist (RCRT) in Traditional Foot and Hand Reflexology adding Thai Foot Reflexology along the way.

A few years ago, she discovered the ancient practice of Qigong and now practices and shares the healing benefits of Spring Forest Qigong with her family, friends and clients.
